Î Management of health information

The “Australian Privacy Act” and “National Privacy Principles” together with the “RACGP” in collaboration with the “Committee of Presidents of the Medical College” and, support of the “General Practice Computing Group”  first published the national privacy principles  in 1998. The policy was later amended in December 2001 to include the private sector within Australia regardless of size and again in December 2002. The Privacy Act Legislation is the law, is enforceable and, applies to all health providers without exception. The Legislation sets out the obligations of health services and providers when collecting and using health information and, to ensure that at all times, strict confidentiality of a patient’s medical record, information contained in such as well as other personal details are maintained.

Î What Information is collected and how

Personal information is any information relating to an individual that is held in a record by an independent organisation for the purposes of independent services. Such Information includes your name, the organisation you may own, have shares in or are employed by to include mailing address, postal address, contact numbers; email, facsimile, mobile, home/office and company/business logos. Information contained in your letters, pertaining to your financial details, research or business affairs. Information received in audio file format and text format for the purposes of digital transcription which may include patient personal and health attributes, as well as ethnic or racial origin, membership of organisations such as trade unions, or religious or political affiliations.

Î Our Commitment

MEDÎSEC is bound by Australian Legislation. We have an undertaking to at all times, as directed by Australian Legislation to the appropriate use and storage of personal information, which is part of our business to provide independent services to health professionals in the context of digital transcription and, information technology services.

MEDÎSEC maintains the confidentiality and security of you as a client as well as your patients and their personal and medical information by restricting access to only those personnel whose skills are required to provide transcription and/or information technology services. A range of security measures is also in place to prevent the misuse, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure of your patient’s personal and health information, as well as your personal information. All personnel are fully aware of professional conduct, Australian Legislation and our commitment to our clients.

MEDÎSEC will not disclose, lease or sell to any unrelated third party information relating to you as a client, your business, your patients or any other information provided for the purposes of digital transcription and/or information technology services.

MEDÎSEC has archiving policies and procedures in place which provide for the secure storage or secure permanent destruction of files when no longer required, in accordance with National Privacy Principle 4.2.

MEDÎSEC will ensure at all times that every reasonable step is taken to protect you as a client and, your patients from discussion with other clients or businesses.
